Affordable Programs and Options
There are affordable options for child care in New Haven. Depending on your income, household size and other factors, you may be eligible for low-cost or free child care. The options below are just some of the programs that are available in the city.

Head Start and Early Head Start
Head Start and Early Head Start are free, federally funded programs designed to promote school readiness for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers from families that meet income eligibility requirements.
There are three Head Start partners in New Haven that support multiple programs across the city. Call these partners directly to learn about eligibility and how to apply:

Early Start CT
The Early Start CT Grant Program provides affordable, high-quality early care and education services in high-need communities that help young children prepare for kindergarten. These seats are subsidized for eligible families who need care and are offered at a discounted rate, often on a sliding scale or based on income.
There are 26 Early Start CT Programs in New Haven. They offer care for kids 6 weeks to 5 years old.

Care4Kids
Care 4 Kids helps low to moderate income families in Connecticut pay for child care costs. This program is sponsored by the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood.
Sliding Scale and Income Based Tuition
